Nuffield Council report on alcohol consumption in the UK - has anyone else worked out exactly who it is that has funded this?

Well, well. Proof, if any more were needed, it is official: this one certain James Gordon Brown does truly believe we are all very, very stupid indeed. Without very much effort at all, it was pretty damm easy to make the connection and join the dots. This Scottish puritan is hell bent on - and as his health minister Dawn Primarolo put it “we in the government will be making sure” that we become a more sombre, sober, serious and bloody boring, dull as ditch water society.
Today the Nuffield Council on Bioethics published a report into alcohol consumption in the UK. And according to it we’ve become a nation of terrible, irresponsible raging alcoholics that are all incapable of intelligent, astute decision making about our own lives and due to this we should all be taxed into a teetotal submission at the alter of Gordon Brown’s Scottish Presbyterian ways. GB imagines that if he can just get the wording right, have the report headed by someone who really doesn’t look like he’s anything to do with Labour and cunningly add a slight attack, a few negatives directed towards the government and none of us, not a single one of us, are going to make the connection. Well, I spotted it straight away and a few little searches on the old wikipedia later and hey presto - I’ll just let you all take a shot at guessing which was the Human Being sanctioning the funding of this report.
When, in the run up to Tony Blair leaving, there was that constant English sneering arrogance about Gordon Brown being too Scottish to be Prime Minister, I personally was not a very happy English person to be constantly made aware of the fact that people in this country can still manage to fall back into that disgusting and I would have thought long since extinct English cultural arrogance about Scotland and the Scottish. But actually, I don’t think they were far wrong. He is too Scottish to be Prime Minister, this and his culturally hubristic belief that if only we could be gently (at first, and if this approach doesn’t work - hammered upon from a great height by his clunking fist) steered towards becoming a more responsible and serious society, one in which, recognising the error of our pleasure, delight and laughter filled English drinking ways, we become a more sombre, sober and serious society. One not too dissimalar to the Scottish Presbyterian world he grew up in and believes is of the more superior version of society. This is really not ok. Gordon Brown, those hideous sneering, arrogant English media people were not wrong - he is too Scottish to be Prime Minister. And we should not allow ourselves to be led by the nose and brain washed by this version of Scottish cultural arrogance.
The Nuffield Council on Bioethics is funded by the Medical Research Council. The Medical Research Council is part of the Department of Trade Industry as was, the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform as is of the 28th of June 2007. Obviously, I don’t need to explain that these are Departments of the Labour Government.
He is, in a very underhand, devious and arrogant manner attempting to pass this Lord Kreb - the reports chairman - off as merely a highly qualified, concerned and more importantly independent of the government, expert in the effects of alcohol. And that, entirely independent of the government he has come to, conveniently enough for a Scottish puritanical Prime Minister, the conclusion that GB was needing to give him an excuse for imposing his conservative, pleasure free, high minded and serious ways on us. I hope people read this, and weep with worry about the fact that this is the shape of things to come with this version of Labour. They will not stop until we have all bucked under the weight of these non stop, nannying, nagging, and anxiety creating reports. And have all eventually become exactly what it is that he wants us to be: Presbyterian Scotland somewhere around 1934.

Did you notice that the BBC did their own straw poll of doctors, which came to the obvious conclusion!

It's more than likley that they were prompted to do it, me thinks.

Welcome to the blogosphere.

Keep it up. If I have a criticism (friendly, of course), I found your piece a little difficult to read due to its structure. Perhaps more clearly defined paragraphs and the odd illustration would help.

As for the bottler, he is such a lying, useless coward, I doubt he'll last all that long.

Welcome aboard - but I have a nagging doubt you may have been around these parts before? Or is that my paranoia?
Ho-hum. My view is this - I am ot at all surprised - it is part of the ever totalitarian machine that is the zanulab media / establishment control mechanism - designed to lcok us into a state of concern then gratitude for it's controlling remedies. It is no different to the state control mechanisms of the soviets in them good ol' days.
Nanny keeps her job by making us feel like we need her to wipe our nose.

"according to it [the report] we’ve become a nation of terrible, irresponsible raging alcoholics" Become? I thought we'd been that for the last 500 or so years at least.

As ever if they don't control the Bodies, they control the charities. Alister campbells missis is in charge of one that gets 90% of its funding from the taxpayer.

An ok blog btw... keep up the good work..
